Forum thread URLs

Is there any way to make the forum produce shorter URLs for threads/boards? As it is, the URLs are often very long because they include the complete (sub)forum name and thread name, and if the thread name also includes non-standard characters, it gets even longer. Also, if we edit the thread titles, wouldn't it result in broken links if we had linked that thread previously somewhere?

Just pointing it out, not sure if there's anything that can be done about it, but most forums seem to assign specific IDs for threads and boards, so the URLs don't get TOO long.

There are some controls provided for this, but we'll have to experiment a bit to figure out the best settings. Strap in and stay tuned. :S

Ok, we have lots of settings to play with, but changing them causes missing page errors (the dreaded 404).

It may need some time for the changes to permeate all of the numerous boards here before it'll work, but I didn't want to test that theory with the number of members currently connected. I'll watch for a time when I'm alone in here (or close to it) and try again.
