TVP Web site - PT Version

Hello!

This is my first post here. Sorry if I am posting this in a wrong section.

Does anybody know who could help with the the Venus Project site, in Portuguese version?

I ask this mainly because the FAQ question in this version is not in really good state to share, It seems it was an automatic translation. I talked to a guy from the Brazilian group, and he sent me the Pootle link with almost the whole site translated in a good version, but he didn't know who would upgrade the current version of the site.

I'm not really familiarized with the translation works, but I'm starting this issue because I help in the administration of the The Venus Project - Brazillian profile on facebook, and this is such a good tool to spread the project ideas.

Thank you, and sorry again for any inconvenience.

:)

Hi,

Right now the TVP website is going through testing and modification of the translation system it uses. Once this is successfully completed, finished translations will be uploaded to it.

Every language team works on the translation in Pootle until it is fully proofread and ready for the public. When the team is satisfied with what there is, the language coordinator makes a ToDo on this forum, which tells the administrators it is time to get the ball moving - the process of putting the translations to the website begins. The Brazilian translation hasn't been marked as completed yet. If you'd like to help with working on the translation in Pootle or getting more people involved with it, this might help speed things up so that it can be declared as finished after everyone is satisfied with it.

Hope this answered your questions. :)

Hi again!

Thank You for the information!
As I'm seeing in the Pootle link, the whole site content is translated, it is stated as 100% complete. So the next step is to make a ToDo about it. I'm talking to the guys from Brazilian Group about this.

I think I will post some news (or doubts) soon. lol

See Ya :)

Hi Lcs,

Great news! Thanks!

As I said, once we make the modifications to the translation system so that it suits our needs (for example, blocking all machine translations), we will start uploading all the translations.

In the meantime - yes, you can help if you have Joomla or php knowledge, or if you know/can ask others who do. It is really all a matter of technical problems that need to be solved.

Yes, I'm thinking about post a message recruiting people who have this knowledge on the 'TVP Brasil' page on facebook.

Do you agree with that? I'm not sure if we gonna find someone truly able to handle it, but its a try.

And if you agree, how should I guide the interested ones?
Just to make it clear, I intend to have a first conversation with these people before put you in touch. I'm thinking about a post telling that we need people who: Like the TVP, Speak English, And know about joomla or php.

But for now it's just an intention. I ll be waiting your answer before do anything ok? I think you guys have more experience in recruiting and working with different people than me, so maybe you can have useful tips.

Yeah, this seems like a good idea to me.

These are the technical skills sought: people who are web developers and have experience in Joomla and/or PHP.

No need for you to have first conversations with them. Those who are interested can just send an email to webmaster [at] thevenusproject.com, sharing their experience, sending a CV, etc. From the info in the email we'll see if they would be able to help. If they are a good match, we'll get in touch with them.

So, that's about it. Let me know if there are any more questions you'd like to clear out before sending this. And thanks for asking for information and finding out how you can help with this. :) It's much appreciated.

Hi @Lcs:

I´m also on a facebook page moderation and and belong with the European Portuguese Team here in LTI, as a translator and proofreader. We have the same problem with the TVP page.

I have a few ideas on atracting new people to the LTI, spreading the message through TZM and TVP facebook pages. We need help on the linguistic area as well as in the techcnical area. I´ve explained it a little bit in this thread:

Attracting New Members & Keeping the Old Ones

If you want to join me with this, please let me know. :hangten:

Hello Again,

lizardman, I have an scheduled post for tomorrow morning trying to recruit that specialized people. Just to be sure, they must know to write and understand English language right?

I will tell here any news about this work, let's keep in touch!

And Kassy, thats a thing that we really need to do. I'm not sure if I understood the entire idea, but If you can count on me to spread some contents by our TVP brazilian page on facebook. Acutally this would be useful for us.
And tell me if there something else that I can do about it ok? :D

Lizardman,

We posted on Jan 13th the calling in our page with the instructions and the email you told me. it had some likes and shares, and some guys tagging their friend, but I think that's all, Nobody contacted us to ask for more information about this issue.
Have you received any new emails about it ?

Sorry for not updating it.
What could we, (or could I) do to make it happen, do you think about something?

No, there are no emails. Thanks for trying this, though.

Maybe a more permanent advertising will have a bigger potential to attract people with those skills? I'm not sure if that is possible, you know better.

Also if you know or can reach out to other facebook groups/pages who would be willing to put this advertisement, that would also be great. :)

Basically, anything that will make this need better known.

Yes, these are all good ideas.
And to try to reach in their niches is the best one, maybe it's important to beginners in this career to have a portfolio.

I will talk more enphatically about this to the social media group, maybe the guys have some sugestions too.

We sure will do something about it.
but just to understand, does it means that, as long as we don't find the skilled guy, there's no way of the update go on?

I am constantly working on this and other problems with the site. And also on getting more people involved. Last night I showed this translation system problem to an experienced developer and we tried to find a solution for several hours, but unsuccessfully.

But we won't give up, will we? :)

The problem is related to caching. So, I need to read a lot about how caching works in general, how Joomla cache works, different options for caching, etc., and hopefully find a solution. Just saying this so you get an idea how things are done.

So, there is always work going on, it's just that the more help there is, the faster things will happen.
