Screen-casting softwares

Hi!
Seems that Camstudio is the most famous free software to record our own screen and audio. I installed it and it came along with several issues like browser hijacking and stuff. So, while trying something else, I wonder if anyone has experience with any such software and can advise on it? I remember Camtasia was what Bruno and Michael used but it has a trial version of 30 days now.

I want to get acquainted with those tools once and for all, as they might seem the best way to introduce someone to a task. Just like PrtSc are better than 1000 words, so these tools might reveal themselves very practical soon.

hugs

Some days ago I used "Record my Desktop" for the first time. It was very intuitive and easy to use. It did work for me on the first try. My operating system is Linux Ubuntu, but there is also a version of this tool available for Windows. I have no idea how it works under Windows, but at least it is worth trying in my opinion.

I looked into it again: It seems, that there is no version for Windows. But at least for Linux users it works great. So if there are any, I'm recommending it. (Sorry for confusion. :))

yup. i couldn't find any for windows. I tried Jing and Camstudio, out of this list: Comparison of screencasting software - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jing seems easy to use, since it keeps a blured panel hidden in the top of your browser so you can record your screenany time u want. The audio quality wasn't good and there are very few features.

Camstudio has many features that I don't know, abut video quality and audio quality, but I don't find how to record the full screen instead of just the rectangle that follows the mouse. Unless that limitation, I would have continued with it on my search; but this way I will have to keep searching.

Does anyone has any later experience with screen casting tools and can advise on something that works well for you? and free (looks like camtasia is a trial of 30 days) @brunodc: @michaelycus:

I am trying Camstudio to record myself revising a video offline but
there seems to be a conflict that makes it freeze and block my screen on
green-rose flashes. It also downloads a lot of junk and a browser
hijacking thing that changed my default url in the browser to
chrome://lightning/content/newtab.html

I need to search for another tool. Camtasia seems to be a trial version
of 30 days only. I am trying to get rid of those bugs now before
starting new tests.

just to keep you fellows who replied updated ; )
