Egyptian Greetings from the UAE

Hi Everyone,

I'm Karim, an Egyptian who traveled around and learned 4 languages in the process:

English: Excellent writing and Reading
French: Excellent Writing and Reading (although haven't used it in over 5 years so need to warm up a bit)
Spanish: Good Writing and Reading (Although haven't used it in over 8 years, so also need to warm up a bit)
Arabic: Mother tongue but weakest skills (will take me some time to translate but need someone with proper Arabic to verify the meaning)

Please let me know how i can help.

Hi Karim.

You could start helping in the English team. We always need people with strong English skills to ensure a proper transcription as basis for the translation teams. After you have acclimatized yourself you then can switch over to one of the translation teams for French or Spanish.

To get started you might want to look around here: http://wiki.linguisticteam.org/w/FirstTi…eral_Guidelines

Welcome to the LTI family. :)

Greetings, Tim (German coordinator)

Hi Ray

Questions!!!! I have plenty.

1) How do I contribute? Went through the guidelines and teams, but I am lost.
- Do I have to sign up for a certain team to work with them?
- How do i find/get assigned projects?
- How do I use DotSub? Are there groups that i need to join?

2) I want to start by proofreading, as suggested by Tim, What do i need to do?

Thanks :)

This Saturday at 19 UTC (search for the term via Google to find out what it means for your timezone) we will have another LTI meeting in Teamspeak3. So maybe we can answer your questions there more directly and you will hear of some guys and gals of the LTI family. :)

How to join the server is explained here: http://thezeitgeistmovement.com/teamspeak

I am looking forward to hear from you.

- How do i find/get assigned projects?
- How do I use DotSub? Are there groups that i need to join?

2) I want to start by proofreading, as suggested by Tim, What do i need to do?

There are currently about 200 videos in dotSUB, as well as 7 active text-based projects within Pootle (some of them quite large), within the care of each of our language teams, and there are another 31 video projects moving through the English Dep't that will eventually be added to that total, plus more that are currently 'on hold' for various reasons. As a result, the advice is for members to always try to focus exclusively on their native language whenever possible. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I imagine that means the Arabic Team will benefit from your presence and skills. ^^

So, you would start by introducing yourself to the Arabic Team, letting them know what skills you wish to contribute to the team (you've already mentioned proofreading here, for example). It's in the resulting chat with whomever replies to your 'intro' post that you can learn what projects are already in progress &/or still awaiting someone to begin translating, what stage are they in, what is ready for a first or second round of proofreading, and most other team-related questions you might have.

As for how to use dotSUB, we've got you covered there, too, sir!
