LangTeam Coordinators - Combining your Team Glossary with Pootle's "Terminology" feature

Since the launch of LTI, all language teams have been highly encouraged to create and build up their own individual Team Glossaries in order to help standardize translations of sometimes difficult English terms & phrases across the entire team (makes proofreading much easier, too). Many translators report difficult terms & phrases, which are then often added to the English (Global) Glossary. This makes the Global Glossary a good base from which to start your own, if none yet exists. You can find it here in spreadsheet format. My suggestion would be to only copy from this the terms &/or phrases that are likely to cause issues during translation into your language, such as those with multiple possibilities depending on context or words that do not exist simply within your language. There is little sense in supporting any that are easy to translate. ;)

Within Pootle, if a team coordinator has already taken the time to generate the Terminology project within your language section and then populated it with RBE-specific terms from your existing Team Glossary, those terms will appear across all of the projects within your language section of Pootle as Suggestions to the left of the translation area. So for example, if the term Resource-based Economy appears somewhere within the English that you are about to translate and that phrase is included in your Team Glossary and within the Pootle Terminology project from your language, you will have the exact translation that you should use right there, where you need it, instead of having to move to another tab or browser window in order to reference a copy of your Team Glossary to find the team-agreed-upon translation that should always be used for the phrase.

For any language teams without a Language Coordinator, or without a Team Glossary (or if its integration into Pootle does not yet exist), let me know if you have any questions before diving into such a project, as these extremely helpful beasties need additional integration besides Pootle. The benefits are quite substantial, not only to new members of your team, but also to the grizzled veterans. ^^

Hi Ray.

In Pootle some projects are not available to be transalted in albanian.
Tell me if you need examples.

Some of the projects are outdated/historical. Which projects are you looking to translate?

OK, you now have permissions for all of those except the TZM website since that project is obsolete (it has the contents of the previous TZM website).

Ah..also for the To Do - List, is there something to be translated into Albania?

The ToDo list is used when a language team has completed a translation. The ToDo means "This translation is finished and can be uploaded to the public location".

Just a note for @rock3r: that Pootle's "Activist Orientation Guide" is also 'Historical'/outdated, so I switched that one to view-only. It was replaced by TZM Defined, which you are set up to translate.

You might want to reconsider trying to handle both Albanian & Italian. In addition to what you see in Pootle, there are also over 200 videos within our care (could take years for a single language to get through them, not counting more being added as we progress). ;)

Well Ray, that's for sure, that are a lot of videos to be translated, i think i can make a list to translate the most relevant ones first. You're right, i can handle both Albanian & Italian, Italian for me is the same with the Albanian language.
I was already translating Activist Orientation Guide cause i think is important for new supporters but since it's Historical/Outdated i think i pass.

LTI's Priority List needs updating to take into consideration items that have been added to the system since it was last 'adjusted'. My intention is to update the info as it is migrated into the new LTI member portal before it is launched.
Still, this resource should provide you and other Albanian members with a strong understanding of which 'core materials' are viewed as most important by TVP & TZM and, subsequently, by LTI.

LTI Priority List

There are a lot of other very important resources contained in wiki (all eventually being migrated into the member portal), but limit yourself to the items linked to within Wiki's main menu, or you're likely to get yourself lost in there. ^^
