I think the "their" should be "its" i.e.

Me: The use of "their" is actually grammatically correct, because it refers to "he or she", hence the plural ("they"-->"their"). "Its" can only refer to non-human entities.

I think the "their" should be "its" i.e.

In this contextual usage, it is proper to refer to an arbitrary "he or she" combo as their, or to expand it into "his or her" or "his/her", but it's not proper to refer to a human as "its" in English. Numerous languages have different rules about this, so substitute 'its' if it is appropriate for your language.

No, it is not appropriate in our language. Moreover, the use of "their" also avoids any gender discrimination which could be insinuated (however unintentionally) by the use of "his". It is really common for speakers in our language to refer to any human as "he", while a human could also be a "she".
