TROM - translation questions

Hi guys,

This thread can serve as hub and archive for questions that are related to TROM's content. Tio (TROM's creator) will be following it and helping with answers about the proper meaning of questions related to the script.

(This is the link to a google group that was used prior to the creation of this thread: https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgro…n-support-group )

I'll start with question about the part named 10 - Wars, weapons and law people. It's about the very end of the part:

"Remembering the vast universe and what is a human being, it's sad that it takes a conflict within this species, the only one capable(from what we know so far), to understand the universe. This conflict can be understood today through environmental influence, the way people learn(through imitation), obedience to authority etc... "

I don't understand the meaning of 'conflict' here. Which conflict it is referring to?
And what exactly takes a conflict? Does understanding the universe take (require) a conflict, or does it say that the human species is the only one capable to understand the universe?

Thanks!

I think this line makes it confusing "the only one capable(from what we know so far), to understand the universe" the comma shouldnt be there. The conflict refers to the conflicts withing the species : wars, crime, tribal separation, etc. Wanted to point out that the universe, the world we live in, is very complex, amazing and intriguing, and is sad people are wasting time and resources for wars for example, instead of focusing on understanding their position in the universe since they are the only one that can do that.

The part is about wars and weapons, so i think it should be clear I refer to them as "conflict".

Hope it helps.

Hi again,

This time I have a question related to part 13 - Beauty and Design. The very last sentence in it.

It's humble that an industry was created from a sense, sight, an industry that can't rely on anything to define it's values.

What does "it's humble" mean here?

Thanks!

'Lowly' might be a good synonym for that usage, Lizzie.
Also, please correct the 'it's'. It should be 'its' (no apostrophe because the pronoun is possessive, not the contraction for 'it is').
((hugs)),

He means "Palm Pilot" which is also shown in the upper left corner of the presentation graphics.
(In 2002 I owned one of these devices while I had been studying)

Hi,

On part 17 - Family and Love there is this sentence at the beginning: The family represents a horde, the gathering of some animals after a genetic sequence.

What does "the gathering of some animals after a genetic sequence" mean?

Thanks in advance!

I think that the "genetic sequence" denotes the process of reproduction (coitus, pregnancy, birth). I am not sure, though.

The family represents a horde, the gathering of some animals after a genetic sequence.
I tried to explain what a family may represent and in many cases is a gathering of animals that are genetically related : male + female = babies => family. From lions to humans that seems to be the most common trait when it comes to defining a family. Hope it helps. The way I expressed myself in the documentary may not reflect it too well though....

TROM documentary english transcription proofreading.

Hello folks, Tio and the TVPMedia Audio Department are encouraging a remaking of the Trom documetary audio material. This includes the music, sound effects and narrations (overdubbing into other languages). As part of the process, we are establishing a system for major proofreading of the english subtitles.
Anyone interested in helping with this development, please PM me so we can set up a meeting to discuss how we are going to organize this.
