Translating 'America'. Suggestions and opinions

Hi everyone,

The Spanish team
has recently been discussing the possibility of translating ‘America’ as ‘USA’
when it is obvious that that’s what they’re meaning to say.

We’d really
like to know what other language teams are doing and how they have come to
their conclusions.

We don’t
like to change or ‘correct’ what the narrators say, maybe another possibility
could be for the transcribers to get in touch with them and ask them more
precisely what they want to say so as to make all of the translations the same.
Thanks and regards

My translation for America is always United States (États-Unis in French). Most of the time, when the speaker says US, USA, or America I translate it with "États-Unis". We haven't discussed it with the team, I'll raise the issue during the next meeting.

Yeah, I translate it as USA also, when it is clear that the country is being referenced. America is actually the name of the continent (two continents). Of course, every case is specific and should be dealt with as such (meaning, to take into consideration the full context), but most of the times there is no problem and it actually makes the translation better sounding and non-amateurish looking if you try to avoid using America for the country. And it saves space! :P
