The majority obviously condemns certain actions, but the press, which is expected to unbiasedly represent the truth, has been presenting very different and highly biased perspectives (either pro-action, or framing it as an endless debate), so the press' traditional role of 'keeping the power structure in check' (preventing power from ignoring the will of the people) is being brought into question here. It's basically asking people to think about why the role of the press has changed from protecting the public from power to protecting power from the public.
