I refuse to be terrified - translation problem

We don't have or stil have not found an equivalent for the sentence "Don't buy the hype" appearing at the end of the video "I refuse to be terrified".

00:02:16,139 --> 00:02:17,604
I used a lot of scary images

00:02:17,604 --> 00:02:19,773
cause that's what THEY do

00:02:19,773 --> 00:02:22,000
don't buy the hype

00:02:22,000 --> 00:02:26,346
for real, global solutions visit: http://thezeitgeistmovement.com

Definition: Hype, attempts to make people think something is good or important by talking about it a lot on television, the radio etc - used to show disapproval [LDOCE].

If you confirm we can use an informal formula, due to the kind of video, I would have an idea:
in italian we say "non bertela" (literally = don't drink it), that is a funny and soft way to say "don't let them rip you off".
Other suggested translations are "don't let the propaganda / advertisement / media convince you",
but in my opinion it's not a good idea to add these more specific words, beside the fact that they're too long for the string.

Any other idea will be really appreciated :loveya: Thank you!

In French, we translated it as "Ne vous laissez pas entrainer", which kinda means don't let yourself be influenced.

I agree with you that this shouldn't be directed at the media/propaganda, so this Italian expression seems good!

Diana,
I really like the "don't drink it" expression in Italian. Kinda reminds me of the English, "Did you swallow that?" :hypno:
Can't imagine the difficulty of translating, BUT...I know it's worth it!
((hugs)) for all you do,
Di
