Hello there Folks!

For those who are already familiar with the project I suggest skipping the first paragraph as it is the introduction of the project.

Introduction

If you haven't heard about the Zeitgeist: The European Way project than it's for you. It's a travel documentary project that was started back in 2011 when together with my girlfriend Paulina we went on an incredible journey around Europe visiting different TZM chapters in 16 different countries. We went there with our video cameras filming their activities and doing interviews. We spent 2 months travelling, mostly hitchhiking sometimes (with the help of our TZM Friends) via public means of transport. We covered 14,500 kilometers. All in all, we gathered about 150-200 hours of footage that, sadly speaking, hasn't been processed till this day. And this is where your role comes into play =o)

The Translation Project

I have a lot of interviews recorded along the way, all done in interviewees mother/native tongues. The interviews vary in length from 5min to 1hour (only one!). What I would ask of you is to help me do a ROUGH translation of these interviews so that I can edit them into the movie.
Let me make that clear: I don't need a perfect (and very time consuming!) translation from you. All I require to push the project along is a quick translation of the interviews so that I can understand there the interviewees are talking about what.

I have uploaded most of the interviews on YouTube already (I provide the list of language orgnised interviews below). I think we might use Amara, as this is the quickest tool I know of at the moment. If you know any better tool, that will ease the translation process, please do let us know ASAP! ^_=
Amara.org is a relatively intuitive tool that lets people subtitle a video quickly and without worrying about the technical aspects of it too much. You can learn more about it from this video:

thejester@tzmpolska.org or the-jester@tlen.pl to indicate that you are willing to help out. Please do also state which video in particular you would like to help translate - it's important so as to avoid doubling the work effort. Basically everything that is done on Amara is immediately saved and accessible to others but from what I know when two people work on the same video at the same time then their efforts may cancel out and we wouldn't want that, would we? ^_=

Important thing: You will most probably have to open an Amara account (but you may also sync it with your FB or Google account as well)

Hi! I took a look at the interview to the portuguese guy in Switzerland. Those 5 minutes don't have very appealing content. So I wonder, will this all be transcribed to english and only then you will cut and edit? @tHEjESTER:

And the concept, as I understand it, will be, that footage will be shown and the subs will appaer.

Rod's point is spot on (hoping that I'm using that English phrase correctly lol)

These 'raw' video files only need a quick n' dirty conversion directly into English (no need to first go into the native languages of the speaker or even to proofread them more than just reviewing your own translations before turning them into Jasiek & Paulina) so that a single 'interview' can be spliced together from the best parts of each. The resulting edited video will be the one that's brought more officially into LTI/dotSUB for full processing as a multi-lingual project where the audio comes through in different languages, but the subtitles will be only in the language of the viewer.
